Changing Ireland Galleries
National Museum of Ireland
2025
Drinkall Dean were commissioned to design the Changing Ireland Galleries at the National Museum of Ireland, which opened in October 2025. This major development represents the most significant expansion of public gallery space at the Collins Barracks site for decades.
Our ambition was to convey the complexity of modern Ireland through a selection of the Museum’s most iconic and resonant 20th century objects. Working closely with curators, stakeholders and advisory groups, we developed a design approach that responds sensitively to the historic fabric of the building while presenting dense narrative content in accessible, engaging and inclusive ways. There is minimal interpretation throughout, and instead the design fosters a sense of openness and dialogue with the objects.
